Why Does My Car Shake When I Brake?

Why Does My Car Shake When I Brake?

It can be unnerving to Press On Your Brakes to slow down only to feel Your Car Start To Shake When Braking. Often times you will feel this Brake Vibration in the Steering Wheel as well as your Brake Pedal. This Brake Vibration or Brake Shaking is often a sign that you should contact your Local Auto Repair Shop. At Asetex Tire & Auto in Claremont NH we will get you right in and Assess Your Brake System! The most common reason when a Car Shakes When Braking is the Brake Rotors. Your car slows down by Pressing the Brake Pedal, which makes the Brake Calipers squeeze the Brake Pads onto the Brake Rotors. The friction caused by this is what slows the car. The Brake Rotors spin with your wheels and Brake Rotors Warp over time and use. Warped Brake Rotors can cause Shaking When Braking. Or you may feel a Brake Vibration. Possibly even Brake Noise too. Other than time and use, Brake Rotors Warp for other reasons, such as:

  • Heavy Braking: Pressing the Brakes hard, and for a length of time, such as going downhill, can cause the Brake Rotors to overheat & warp.
  • Uneven Brake Pad Wear: When Brake Pads Wear Unevenly, they won't make proper contact with the Brake Rotors. This can cause Brake Rotors To Warp.
  • Temperature fluctuations: Sudden cooling off of hot rotors, like when driving through a puddle after Heavy Braking, can cause Brake Rotor Warping.

Other reasons your Car Shakes When Braking are:

  • Worn Brake Pads: Brake Pads wear down. Brake Pads that are worn down can cause Brake Shaking, Brake Vibrations and Brake Noises.
  • Loose Wheel Bearings: Loose Wheel Bearings can cause shaking and noises when accelerating or turning. vehicle.
  • Unbalanced Tires: Tires that are Out-of-balance can cause a Vibration during Braking or what feels like Shaking while Braking.
